Unit 2 : Evaluation
- I decided to choose spirals out of all the options given because it offered the highest amount of things for me to do. I had lots of initial ideas like making spirals with light like using torches attached to wheels or just making spirals free hand. Another idea of using light would consist of using sparklers or fire but the more realistic one would be the sparklers. I could also do things to do with nature, like spirals within shells and I could make a set of pictures of these different patterns or close ups. Also taking pictures of things like urbanised things like spiral staircases or banisters in a spiral shaped. On the whole I chose spirals because it offered the most ideas and things to experiment with like the way I experimented with nature and light.
- The idea of light was the main thing I worked with and I made alterations and changes to what I'll do and can do throughout the process. The light painting started off just using colours with the possible idea of filling the page with one massive spiral with three different colours. Unfortunately this didn't come out very well, so I left the idea of using light for a while and went and started experimenting with sparklers. While using the sparklers I made spirals mostly in my garden hoping that I could fit around four spirals surrounding different people in different places of the garden. I also attached lights to bike wheels a rode around a near car park but this was more for experimentation not a final piece. Most of my investigation was based around using the sparklers because I thought they'd stand out and look the most different. I didn't maintain most of my focus on the light paintings but occasionally mixed things up and included Rayographs or shells with spirals in them. I got most of my ideas from photographers and artists like Andy Goldsworthy who used nature to make spirals which overall gave me ideas to do with shells sparklers. Also Yuval Cadmon helped me come up with the idea of using different coloured lights in the broadcast studio to make spirals, this overall started the idea of using light to make spirals for my final piece.
- I experimented with quite a few different things like the way I could make a light painting like where the location is or what I'd use for a light source. An example would be how I moved out of the dark room to the outdoor space where I could then experiment with sparklers and lights attached to bike wheels. I also used things like the dark room to make the light paintings with the coloured lights, I also used photoshop where I layered some images on top of each other.
- I've recorded everything I've done by updating it on my website by adding photos of everything I've done onto the web page. I've also wrote stuff about the the sets of images I've uploaded and also the single images I've taken. My unit 2 page is also in organisation so every bit of text is relevant to the image above or images above. Its also got different ways of presentations like the gallery and just singular shots.
- I'm pleased with the different types of final pieces and the range of outcomes they've offered up. I said for Final Piece 1 that, This is my first final piece done using the dark room of two separate images. One of them is me sitting there the other is four different spirals which were done using two people with one light in each hand. It relates to my final piece because the light painting is in a spiral shape with me in the centre. I think the good things are that its quite clear and you can see everything going on in the image. It might look better if there was more colours or more spirals. I also talked about my other final outcomes like this as well.
- I'm overall pleased with the outcomes of my images which are all different but not off topic. There is a range of colours from all the different outcomes and the different shapes and patterns of the spirals. I've also got quite a big selection of final pieces this time which is helpful because there's a wider variety of spirals, showing the experimentation of things to do with spirals that I've done.
