What we learn from the photographrs
How do street photographers behave?
-They stay energetic, so they can capture what they see everyday. -They must behave responsibly or they could end up getting involved in drugs and crime which is not what they set out to do.
What kind of equipment do they use?
-Leick camera, very quiet lets you take pictures without people realising.
-DLSR, captures high quality photographs.
What kinds of subjects interest them?
-Everyday street life, what people see everyday but don't take note of what they just saw.
-Danger on the streets.
Why do they like photographing on the street?
-Because it gives a look what goes on and its part of the hectic life style they live.
-Given them a calm look on a energetic street they might see a different side to people and their life.
What are the risk involved in street photography?
-Some may not to get photographed which could end in arguments or fights.

photography challenge #1 - ways of seeing
My favourite street photograph
This is my favourite picture because it show a part of togetherness in a place filled with so much bad and even though there is a big element of violence it still shows how friends stick together. The lens puts lots of focus on the gun which shows the element of danger in these places, I also like the idea that they look like they would die for each other because of the ways their all huddled up together shows their togetherness.I also like to think about what the photographer [Vladimir Milivojevich] went through to get this photograph and how he managed to even get into that situation in the first place. He probably went through a lot of fear as well with a big group of gangsters pointing guns at you while you have to take a picture.

photography challenge #2 - diaganol
The idea for this challenge comes from Eric Kim's great street photography site. Street photographs are often about dramatic situations or view points. Drama is created in pictures in lots of ways but using strong diagonal lines is one technique often used by street photographers.

These are some diagonal lined pictures I took while walking round school for photo chances. The school has a wide range of angles to look for. I used the the diagonal lines on the camera to spot them, I only really tried to do diagonals because that was my aim in this lesson.
photo challenge #3 - rule of third
The rule of third is how you spread your image up, there would be nine blocks and you have to neatly space them out for backgrounds and the main focus (person). Most photographers use this method to make a good picture, like the picture to the right has the person then the background image or landscape. This is also how you can tell a good photographer from a great one, by equally spreading the image out. The good thing about doing this is that you can capture the location or the background while fitting the person or the main focus of the image, which is what this picture does.

photo challenge #4 - compare and contrast
Similarities: They have both forged a picture into something, they also use women in both photos even though the other one is a doll. They are both taken in the cities with the shop on the one on the right, the one on the left taken by Fred Herzog is in a downtown car park.
Differences: Ones taken i colour by Fred Herzog the taken by Lee Friedlander is taken in colour. One is based on a reflection and the other focuses on window reflection and the other is a real font which shows the accurate light plus an advert on a bill board.

What Went Well:
I think i captured some good pictures of London which lots of people know, some of the pictures are quite artist like the first picture which was taken inside of St Paul's Cathedral. Shows a good image of street life from a calmer position like up at the top of the skyscrapers or in a quieter spot of the city. |
Even Better If:
I think it could have been better if I'd managed to get more photographs and it would have been much better if I got more ground level pictures of the street. Could have captured more of what people see everyday on their way to work or where ever they might be going. |
We went up to London to have a look at Lorenzo Vitturi's art exhibition, so on the journey there we got some good pictures of street photography to add to this page.
