personal projects: openings
In my 7 week project I will be focusing on taking pictures of openings like doors and windows, and I'm going to change a few things to the actual opening then put a different picture of something else maybe like a garden. I will also like to try some stranger idea's like the picture of no entry, like maybe put photoshop the no entry sign sign into a door or window for a strange or sightly cleaver idea that most people wouldn't think of.
WWW:
I think I managed to get a good set of images focusing on openings like lots of windows and doors. I also got one or two different things like taking pictures of a car window or locker doors which allows me to experiment with things. |
EBI:
Maybe zoom in more on the doors to complete the main focus of the picture, maybe try and explore with more openings that no one would usually think of doing. Also try doing more of different things not just windows from the school. |
First Attempt:
This was my first go on making a picture on openings and it went okay but the pictures didn't really fit in to the locker so it does look quite scruffy and messy. It also doesn't look like its properly forged in with which means its okay for my first attempt but there is definitely room for improvement. |
Second Attempt:
My second was way more successful because it matches into the inside of the locker. It also looks a lot more real with the way it is measured up to match the edges and sides of the inside of the locker. The image in general is much neater like the lighting and the fact that the locker is the main part of the image. |
Attempt 3:
This is my third go and I think I've made my original idea on a bigger scale, on the whole this has gone well but I reckon it could be more neat. I'm thinking of doing is have printing a full sized picture of this cut out the windows and fill them with random things like magazines or just rubbish in general. I've got this idea from a website called 'DADA' which is a group of photographers who first started trying different things like making pictures out of rubbish. So I aim to mix my original idea with this to make a new surprising idea which is different.

Attempt 4:
This time I used the same picture only adding Kurt Schwitters type style to it. I've added lots of different images of newspapers from different periods of time. Some are from the second world war and the others are mostly from the 60s and 70s. This shows the development in how I've gone from taking a scruffy picture of the lockers to windows with old newspapers. This idea comes from my original plan that was making something on the other side of the window or inside the locker. Then I've mixed that with Kurt Schwitters idea of putting rubbish into images, and I'm quite pleased with the outcomes because it follows Kurt's idea from after the war. |
Kurt Schwitters -This picture was taken in the year 1919 and was made after the war. The idea behind this photo was that it was straight after the war or near the end and he was so sick of seeing photos about the war like the famous 'We want you'. This began to inspire him to come up with new ideas which lead to the development of this photo. It consists of complete rubbish and because it was so different and unique it became very successful.

Attempt 5:
This is my overall 5th piece which has got some of Kurt Schwitters original pictures of common random rubbish but made iconic.
I've put those images into my original idea and put the two together which has completed my final piece. On the whole I think I'm pleased with my final bit of work because it brings in multiple bits of art that have been successful which hopefully looks good mixed with my final piece.

Lorenzo Vitturi- He is a photographer who captures strange things in a studio which mainly evolves around decaying objects. His goal is taking pictures of strange things and opening them up and he calls this being a surgeon. Most of the props he gets are from a market called Dalston where he takes pictures while being a visionary atomist, he calls the Dalston market a body with all its different parts. What I'm aiming to borrow from Lorenzo Vitturi is how he gets any old rubbish or decaying objects and put them in one picture together. Then I can add his idea to my original idea where the windows can be filled with rubbish or decaying objects.
|
I'm going to choose one or two of these images and cut out negative space along with the windows. I'm going to do an under layer of everyday rubbish and fill the blank space with it, to get a strange but hopefully unique picture.

Research and Ideas
Research and Ideas
- The reason why I choose to do Openings was because I instantly came up with multiple ideas which I thought would make a good final piece.
- I first began my research by was look at other photographers pictures of openings, this then allowed me to go and use the same techniques. I then searched up photographers who have taken famous pictures that could mix together with my photograph, Kurt Schwitters and Lorenzo Vitturi are very good examples because I can put their photographs into my openings.
- My first ideas were to take a picture of a door of window and put another picture behind it of a field, then i could cut out the door or window and it'll be a strange effect because I'm bring the outside indoors.
- My ideas then developed into cutting all the windows out of a whole building and putting loads of rubbish behind it which would give it an even stranger image.
- My best idea so far would probably be my most recent were I put a black and white image of the school building cut out all the windows and behind it I put a colourful collage of bits of magazine and newspapers to have a big contrast in colours.
- I've chosen all these things because it makes a strange connection with the black and white mixed with the colour of the collage.
- All my experiment have worked nicely but its taken a few times to perfect each one, like my very first attempt my photoshopping skills didn't really work very well but after a few go's it worked quite well.
- My very first attempt didn't really work but I think it was because it was my very first attempt, so I still hadn't come up with a clear idea on my final plan.
- Over time my idea has become more neat and then all of a sudden got messy again but I say that in a good way, because its like an explosion of colours.
- I've overall refined my ideas by including new materials like the magazine plus I've added a filter to have a contrast in colours.
- My final piece links to openings because it shows windows and blank spaces filled with bright colours. The picture has a real contrast in colours because its main colour is black and white and then all the openings are filled with colour.
- I'm going to display them on the wall next to each other, just because it allows everyone to see it and is easy to do.
- I think the contrast in colours went well and also the use of openings like all the windows.
- It'll be even better if I got some more final pieces done and a better thought out display so everyone can see it while looking more appealing.
